Things to do in New Paltz Hudson Valley in June

June is bursting with fun and flavor in the Hudson Valley

We have flowers blooming, festivals starting and golfers out golfing.  We are beginning this month with the Country Living Fair at #Dutchess County Fairgrounds followed by the Rhinebeck National Motorcycle Meet and topped off with the Hudson Valley Brew Festival.  Something for everybody.

The Country Living Fair is showcasing an exciting mix of unique hand made household items; this weekend June 5 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Dutchess County Fair Grounds.  So many are returning again this year to get another peak at all the vintage finds, handmade jewelry, bags, garments and more.

To purchase a 3 day pass visit http://shop.stellashows.net/store/product-info.php?pid111.html.

Rhinebeck is a stunning country venue with beautiful views and fun shops of it's own.  If you decide to take in the Country Living Fair stop into Rhinebeck and check out their delectable eateries and shops.

If home decor is not your cup of tea, check out The Rhinebeck National Motorcycle Meet June 12 & 13 at Dutchess County Fair Grounds.  The doors are open from 8:00am to 5:00pm both days with hourly dare devil stunt shows in the afternoon. Thanks to the Antique Motorcycle Club of America you can get a peak at vintage motorcycles of all makes and models from around the world. In addition to motorcycles, you can step into the past at the Century Museum Village and see some antique tractor and truck machinery display.  A day at the motorcycle meet would be my husband's dream day away.

General Admission: $15.00 for one day and $25.00 for both days.  For more information go to http://dutchesstourism.com/spotlights/Rhinebeck-National-Motorcycle-Meet-Machinery-Show/.

Finally, if those don't peak your interest, come and test out the Hudson Valley Brew Festival: Beer, Bourbon and Bacon on June 20.   The award winning Handsome Devil BBQ will be hosting a whole hog pig roast and bringing their own hand cured bacon.  This year the menu will include an item call The Hot Mess which consists of a layer of brisket, a layer of mac and cheese and topped off with pulled pork.  Sounds good to me!  I might need a day to recover from that lunch.  I'm looking forward to washing it down with a sample of hard cider.  The Bad Seed Distillery from our local Highland, NY will be making it's first appearance this year.  Way to go Bad Seed! We can't wait to test out all the varieties of cider, beer and bourbon.

Go to http://www.beerbourbonbacon.com/ to get your discounted tickets online.

Check out the fun activities going on here this month in the #Hudson Valley and please visit Sam's Cottage website for accommodations at our Cottage http://samscottagebb.com/index.html.  I'm always happy to offer more ideas to plan your getaway.

Please, friend us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram so we can see all your photos and share ours with you.  We're eager to mingle with you all during another fun filled summer. I would love to hear any of your personal experiences at these festivals.  Do you have any tips for a newcomer?

Thanks in advance, looking forward to seeing you at Dutchess County Fair Grounds this year.

Have you met the Sam's Cottage B&B hostess and family?

Sam’s Cottage is our newly opened bed and breakfast in the Hudson Valley situated on Apple Greens Golf Course and apple orchard.  I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and my family to you.  My name is Alyssa; I am the hostess and the cook.  I am a former nurse and I have chosen to become the hostess of our B&B while staying at home with my son.  I am a lover of herb and flower gardening and nearly all breakfast foods.  The sheer variety of baked goods, fruits, sauces and delicious aromas will send my heart afire in the morning.  My dear two year old son, Sam, is at my side as our priority is to provide a warm and inviting place for our guests to put their feet up while on vacation.  He is usually flashing his enchanting smile with a twinkle in his eye.  Although, I am biased. My beloved husband, Pete, is an avid bicyclist, golfer and a sushi chef enthusiast.  He was born and raised here in the New Paltz area and is always ready to offer suggestions on the best hidden spots to explore or tune up your bikes as needed.

I grew up in Montana and moved here about 7 years ago.  I fell in love with my husband and the Hudson Valley.  The New Paltz area alone has endless options for fun and inspiring  activities around nearly every corner.  The beauty of Minnewaska, the winding tree line up the Hudson River and our very own Apple Greens Golf Course are just a few spots that have enchanted me for the past 7 years.

In my future posts,  I will be reviewing the best restaurants, hiking spots, fun activities, and wineries in both the New Paltz area and the whole Hudson Valley area.  I will even add in some delicious breakfast recipes and some of my husbands excellent sushi recipes.

It is my sincere pleasure to be getting to know each and every guest we have.  The guests we have had in just the past two months each have had their own stories, personalities and unique outlooks. What a fun journey in life this is going to be.

Tune in for a review of our local authentic German eatery, The Gunk Haus.
